Hi Mike:
I love Comitan. Sitting in the Parque Central sipping a tea in the evening. Lovely! Temporate climate. have you ever camped at Lagos de Montabello? There is a super spot at Tziscao (the lake, just down the street from the iglesia Catolica). From this campsite/village, it is only a ~20 minute hike (on a nice trail) right into Guatemala on foot...
My fave trip (when I lived in SCdLC) was down to Ocosingo, to buy several kilos of queso de bola ! And, to escape the absolutely freezing temperatures up in SC (even during daytime it was freezing).
