Sorry, but you still have not explained how my transmission "limits" me from downshifting. Whether yours does or not is irrelevant. I did not say yours could, would, or shouldn't downshift. When I hit the button it downshifts, how is that limited? I imagine people are tired of you avoiding the question and me asking it, so I give up.
You guys are talking past each other. The "limit" feature he speaks of is one that a true manual mode has (non-GM). It PREVENTS the transmission from ever downshifting when in manual mode. He's not suggesting your transmission is "limited" in that it won't downshift. He's saying just the opposite in that you cannot "limit" your transmission to a single gear. The GM 'M' mode apparently is a "maximum gear" selection but the transmission is left to shift on its own otherwise.
The only value in limiting (preventing) downshifting is to intentionally lug the engine when traction is poor or you know the hill is almost done anyway.
