Otherwise you have read all the general answers.... go down and buy something. Unless you are going lithium not much has changed in 25+ years.

This is interesting. How does the inverter figure into this? At some point I'd like to add an inverter too. The hope is to one day be able to run the MW for a few minutes without running the gen.

If you have a 6v to 12v step up converter in the emergency kit, then you can still work with a single 6v. That's about 30 bucks.

Actually, you can find 6v in quite a few sizes. I built a little spreadsheet to help me narrow down the batteries I can fit in the battery box and I keep hitting upon the same choice, which is 2 12v or 2 6v with the same number of amp hours.

I also save a few bucks with the 6v, but not much.

Also, I'm looking at AGM, but that shouldn't factor into the 6 versus 12 question.

6 volt all the way. I throw 12's in the lake. One of the worst batteries ever dumped on the public. Geez that dead horse at the door sure smells. :)
