7.3 Powerstroke Question

My 96 has 3-55 gears and no intercooler so I have to watch egts with my chip and injectors. With the e99 having 4-10 gears and intercooler I expect good egts after doing exhaust. I still need to address the trans and converter. I am on east coast and had bts ship me his on black truck. I am considering bts or ford hd trans which has great reviews on the forums. I have time to decide on what way to go

it's an E99 and love the tunes & vb. I upgraded to a newer pmt1 pcm for better tuning. World of difference. Do the vb first and tell Jody you have it so he can tune accordingly. I can usually run with the big boy's on 6/7% grades with the toyhauler. Love the truck. I just bought this e99 F350 DRW from a freind of mine that owned since new. It has Mark lll dress up option and he decided to sell it because the trans is bad. He knew I wanted the truck and contacted me first.
It has 140000 miles on the 7.3 and I got it for 4000. :)
After the trans rebuild I will do a chip and exhaust

Following up, we just completed an 800 miles trip using the heavy tow tune with our 10,000 TT plus 800# of ATV and gear in the pickup bed. Fuel mileage for the first 600 miles was 11.5, but 9.9 for the last 200. No significant wind or elevation changes, but oddly, to me, the last 150 miles was at 45 to 50 mph with quite a bit of curves requiring slowing to 35-40 and accelerating back to the changing speed limits. The better mileage was on regular highways and interstates running a pretty constant 62. The extra torque and hp made a huge difference. The engine never seemed like it was working.

Tunes, injectors, or turbos, hands down the SINGLE best thing improvement I have ever had on any vehicle.

but the tuner is about 1/5 the cost of the other 2. Injectors are about $350.00 each (X8) and a good upsized turbo is about $2500.00 plus labor for installation.

Yeah ford diesel goodies are a lot more than cummins were. At least back in the day they were. I always do my own work. The really good think about fords is the number of owners. Somewhere out there in the Internet is a set of pics and directions for anything on a Powerstroke.
