75mph ST tire

I offer this only as info for the always entertaining and ongoing argument....ooops, I mean "discussion" regarding tires. I was out this morning shopping for a new horse trailer, so of course I looked down at the Chinese ST tire, and saw "75mph" on the sidewall.
I know nothing at all about these tires other than they were round and black, so this is neither a recommendation nor an indictment of them.

"Castle Rock". These were 15" load range D.

  • more common than some people think.

    1) Maxxis ST radials are rated for up to 85mph. I have an email from them with load and pressure requirements above 65mph. you need to adjust inflation pressure and the max load goes down above 65
    2) Carsilie has ST tires rated at 81mph ("M"_) Also have an email from them with the info.
    3) Goodyear Marathons also can be run at 75mph with a slightly reduced load rating as well.
    4) Towmax even has ST radials rated at 75mph "L".
  • In recent years STs have been rated with higher 'speed rating'
    65, 75, 81 mph ratings.

ST mfgs had to do something to curb the competition of LTs....course speed rating wasn't reason for exodus to LTs. JUNK STs was/is.

Heck there was even a 'claim' that an ST was speed rated for 106 mph...course when pressed no MFG. evidence was presented.

My 5vr came with 75 mph speed rated tires.
    So what??

I travel at 62 mph where my sweet spot is for towing.
