I bought a car once that had a plastic smell coming from the engine compartment. Never could figure it out until one day I was looking at something in there and spotted a screwdriver with a melted plastic handle wedged between the exhaust manifold and the engine.
My brother once found a wrench with initials engraved on it in the skid plate of a truck he bought new.
