95 suburban engine mods

I have a 95 sub. with 70,000 miles,350 motor, and 373 gears. towing package also. The sub is doing fine on the road when no trailer, but when I hook up my utility trailer with very little weight, the power seems very low. I will be pulling a 79 Shasta 24 foot trailer. Question that I have is I want to put a rv cam, maybe headers, what ever else it needs. Will this be worth wild? I like the sub and plan on using it for several years. Im worried having throttle body will keep this upgrade from working. Please give me some help. Thanks

  • The pre vortec was not a huge power house, but could be better if some of the work u had stated. A gear change is the best bang for the buck. Your 350 should see max TQ around 2800-3000 if I can recal. I had a friend that had one years ago. I believe it was an 94. He ended up replacing the 350 with a factory crate 454 and was much happier in his ability towing his boat. I think the swap is relatively straight forward. Just a thought, otherwise gearing, because all of the bolt ons need to have the internals to match up, which requires the engine to be pulled anyway.
  • If you haven't done so I would ask around some of the Chevy truck fourms.

You could also call edelbrok and ask them. They might be able to put some sort of kit together. But remember to include in computer programming too.
  • Two wheel or 4 ? if 2 wheel put 410 rear in huge diff if fuel mpg is no issue for u then I would do a gear chance. Or trade off to 454 373 rear end there are lots out there just need to look hard.
  • Those mods will net you very little usable power and you'll have to spin it hard at that.
A gearing change would serve you better IMO. It will cost a couple of thousand dollars if you have 4WD but is worth it if you really want to keep the rig.
Or you could put that money into a newer TV.

    Good luck,
