- PhotomikeExplorer IIIAll this is speculation so I may as well jump in as well.
Looking at the location of the camper in the parking lot (away from the store), as well as the motor home next to it, it looks like the person was camping. It looks like it is early in the evening (by the parking lot lights being on and the fact that someone was at a Starbucks so more than likely at night - yah a guess). So could have been ignited by the furnace being turned on or cycling. Gas build up could be from a stove being slightly on or a leak around the furnace (the hot water tank and fridge is around there as well). Also seeing that the camper is split close to the right side, that would be where the furnace is located (at least in my NL that has the same layout). Could have been a leak in that side and the propane was trapped in the closet, build in area around it.
There that is my 2 cents. I would really like to know what happened.
On edit: I was wrong on the time as it happened at 5:30am. - Executive45Explorer IIIDo they sell iodine in Kelowna....?????.....Dennis
- Buzzcut1Nomad IIthe TC owners going to need this for a while
- louiskathyExplorerLooks to me like the Sightseer next to it crapped a little on the pavement... can't blame it.
- coolmom42Explorer IIOh wow.
Glad no one was injured badly. - SCVJeffExplorerLikely a leaking stove as there obviously was very little LP that did this. I saw one of these explode when in Joshua Tree about 1972. Same thing.. Short boom, blew the sides out and the occupant walked out with a headache. Zero flame.
- newman_fulltimeExplorer IILooks like the fridge went boom boom
- user113Explorer IIIThat'll make your ears ring!:E
- GoinThisAwayExplorerOuch! Looks like an older unit. Glad to hear the occupant wasn't seriously injured.
- Buzzcut1Nomad IIisn't that an intact propane cannister in the lower right compartment?
I wonder if he turned on the stove but forgot to turn on the ignitor. only 4 sparks I can thing of, Fridge pilot, water heater, Tobacco getting lit or a very late turn of the stove sparker. You would have to have one heck of a plugged nose not to smell the mercaptain odorant before the gas exceeded its lower explosive level concentration.
