Damage to a fuel pump is cumulative. In other words a couple of tanks of bad fuel may not kill it but several tanks over time can.
Adding ATF/fuel conditioner to the fuel is a good idea on older rigs as seals and other parts in a pump may require a type of lube or conditioner thats missing in additive packets in todays fuels. If your using 1 or 2 sources for your fuel you may want to use a additive on ocassion. Generally most folks use several different fuel brands and stations so a partial tank of fuel that missed the additive package will not kill the pump or other fuel related parts. Damage is cumulative though.
If your trucks fuel tank has had bad fuel in it I would look in on Cummins.com fuel additive website and see whats available or a email to their tech folks for their input.
