A question for AF 1140 owners

I need some insight from fellow AF 1140 or TC owners. I have a situation where when I am hocked to shore water somehow my fresh water tank continues to fill slowly. This is the first time in the three years of operation this has happened to my knowledge. I am not sure why this is happening. My pump is not on when it occurs. Anybody have advice on this??? Thanks in advance.

  • I had the check valve leaking in my ShurFlo pump. Every 1/2 hour or so it would run for about a 1/2 second. I purchased a rebuild kit for very little money and replaced the valve. Problem solved. There's no need to replace the entire pump.
  • Typically Northwoods puts a ShurFlo pump in, maybe a 4008 if it's a recent unit

Thanks KF4UPL and WCjeep. you've confirmed my suspicions. When I am dry camping (only on on board water)every 15 or 20 minutes the pump will "creep". That clue indicates a bad check valve. I wasn't sure but that is the only thing that makes sense. So new question becomes should I just cut a second check valve into the line or replace the pump?

If it's a diaphragm pump, trying taking it apart first. It's only 6 screws on mine. There may just be a piece of plastic stuck in it. If nothing else, work the rubber pucks a bit, turn them and see if it's any better. You've got nothing to lose.

  • Do you have the valve before the pump normally used for water RV antifreeze? Place the line set aside for antifreeze into a potable bottle. Flip water valve to test water pump check valve.
  • I don't own one but I'd guess the check valve is leaking in your pump.
