I had a similar experience at the dealer the other day while buying my new RAM 2500.
I was waiting for the paperwork to be done and was checking out a new $62K RAM 2500 Cummins that had all of the bells and whistles. I looked at the sticker on the door and the payload was 1,900, only 350 pounds more than my 1500 Silverado.
My new 2500 6.4L gasser has a payload of 3,000. That diesel engine really adds some weight!
Not uncommon. Pickuptrucks.com did a test of a King Ranch F250 and the CCC was 1972lbs. That was only 115 lbs more than my 2010 F150 XLT super crew 4x4 with maxtow and 7650lb GVW.
