A truck battery pop quiz

There's only one question. Let's see how you do!

On a fairly modern tow vehicle, in this case a 2007 F-150, the battery is contained on a nifty plastic box. What is the purpose of the nifty plastic box?

Ready? :h

1. To protect the vehicle from battery acid.
2. To protect the battery from the extreme environment of the engine compartment and thus extend it's life.
3. It looks nice.
4. All of the above.
5. None of the above. The box is in case the dealer must replace your battery under warranty. He can then swap your factory group 65 for a replacement group 59 and you will not know about it until 6 1/2 years later!!

The correct answer is "5"... :S

Well, it least the little battery lasted 6 1/2 years. But still, you have to watch these folks like a hawk and you shouldn't have to.

I put a NAPA "Legend" Group 65 in there today before the extreme cold comes. It should last me until I retire.

There's a battery under the hood? :h LOL!

It's more fun when you find them under the back seat or in the trunk:)

Orr in the fender well, so you have to remove the tire to get to it.

Well it's clear the dealer did you a favor by putting in the 65. 6 1/2 years for any battery other than an AGM is great! I would thank them. BTW what was the rating on the old battery? It's not the size, but what's inside that counts! :B

The Everstart-MAXX (from Walmart) in my Caddy checked out fine after its SEVENTH year when I parked it for the winter. If it still checks out in the spring (it's on a maintainer), it will stay in service for year eight!
