ac cools good at night but at mid day compressor cycles of and on about every 10 minutes and don't cool very well and has started tripping main breaker every once in a while,,,, cleaned the evaporator...

That is very interesting, and I'm thinking your guy is looking for your money. The idea is to get more air across the evaporator coils to prevent the frost. Slowing it down by running on slow can exaggerate that. A dirty filter which will also slow the air can contribute to this.
