AC proper cooling Temp

my 2005 Dodge diesel 2500 truck is not cooling properly.
I used my laser red dot temp gauge to check the temp of the air coming out of the vents.

temp was about 46-52 degrees max

should the air coming out of the dash vents be colder than that?

will take it by the dealership and hopefully they can add some gas to the system.

again, I say hopefully that is all it needs.

Been battling this for several years (05 3500). Have had refrigerant added two or three time in last six years, and all is well. Been leak checked (electronically and whatever other means they have) but have yet to find it. Last refrigerant addition, they also put a dye in the refrigerant in the hope of making the leak location 'visible'.
  • FYI Only: A laser guided infrared thermometer cannot tell you the air temperature period. It's telling you the temperature of the plastic outlet vanes that your aimed at which will be higher.

Is the truck sitting still when checking the temp?

Do you have it on recirculate?

Where do you have the fan speed set?

They will not cool to their max until you are running down the road.
  • I think it should be between 40*-45* @ 80* outside temp. Try using a regular AC thermometer and not the direct read kind.
