Add a Step to the Ladder?

I have an Arctic Fox 990 and when I climb up to the roof, it is a long stretch to stand on the last step of the ladder and swing my leg up over the luggage rack. Looks to me like they needed to put an additional step on the ladder to make it easier to get to the roof.
My question is: Has anyone added a step to their ladder and if so, how did you do it? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to add one?

Thanks,

Big Rig
  • What about moving the whole ladder up?

Then you could use a stool, the bumper, etc at bottom end...
  • Big Rig is asking about the top of the ladder not the bottom. But since you brought it up, I mounted a tailgate step on the bumper similar to this to take care of the bottom and used a bungee cord to hold it up against the ladder while traveling.

Lets move up about 10 feet.... to the problem area.

THe problem that you describe is also my problem. Another step could be added... but we'd still be in danger of falling.

We can't go any higher... tree limbs will tear the ladder off the camper. So for me I try to find a place on the roof that I can grab... luggage rack... and half crawl on.

Most of the time I go up through the fire escape hatch in the cabover... a lot of TC's don't have that hatch... they have side window escapes.

It will be e interesting what you come up with.

BTW,,, I carry a 6' step ladder attached to the campers ladder to clean windows, etc. But it won't get me to the roof.

Maybe you could mount a tube along side the TC's ladder... with another tube inside it... telescoping like a flag pole.

LIft it up and pin it... use it to stabilize your climb on and off the roof...

Be sure and pull the pin and lower it before moving your camper.

Use radiator screw clamps to attach the tube.... no holes in the camper ladder, no screws to foul the inner tube.

    Sleepy

PS... that bottom step is a killer too!

That first step is definitely high off the ground. I suspect most of us Campers carry a small step ladder of some sort along with them. I actually have two. One is four-five foot step ladder and the other one is a two step folding ladder.
