Adding Cruise Control to a 2008 E350

How big of a deal is it to add cruise control to an E350 from 2008? I'm looking at buying one that doesn't have it. It is a must have for us, so not sure what its like to add.

I'm going to call a dealer in the morning to see what they charge, but imagine there are aftermarket options that may or may not work.

I saw this, but not sure how well it works, or how painful it is to remove steering wheel and airbag.

  • Good info.

I have a 2003 E450 with the V10 that doesn't have factory cruise. I'd like to add it as well. I assumed there is more parts to it than just the switches on the steering wheel.
  • Any mechanic with a Ford IDS terminal. So not necessarily a Ford dealer, but most independent shops don't have that system. Some do however. Shops that specialize in Ford diesels would be more likely to have that system.
  • So would the dealer have to turn it on in the computer? Or any mechanic can make that change?

All you have to do is buy a steering wheel with switches and a new clock spring and have a mechanic go into the computer and turn it on. I added a cruise to my 07 truck.

That would probably be a good junk yard purchase. Would they use the same airbag if the junk yard one was deployed?

Yup. That is the best option, and yes, you can just retain your existing airbag.

Same year, same model - I'd bet on it.

  • JcWhitney.com has several things to pick from.

They used to sell several aftermarket kits that cost around $100 back in the late 90's, so around $150 - $200 today.

Hopefully it will not be to difficult to install a CC system. However after 2005, Ford vans stopped having a throttle cable. So it might become increasing impossible to control the speed with something that run like my old 75 Ford with a throttle cable.

    Good luck,

    Fred.
