I don't think anything you do is going to make a big difference in very hot weather. Remember you are in a big aluminum box.
Get the dual hose unit. The single hose pulls air from the inside. The dual hose units pull air from outside then vent the same air back outside.
X2 on dual hose. I use one at my house in areas to help the central unit, also has a heat pump heater. Both the air conditioning and heating works very well. Mine is a Whynter 14,000 BTU. $460 on Amazon.
