I've adjusted my mirrors this way for many years and agree that it works great once you get used to it. But I was having problems when I started pulling trailers and the 5fr because I couldn't see my trailer tires during left and right turns to make sure I was avoiding curbs, etc.
I also have convex mirrors on both sides and I re-purposed them to be able to see my trailer tires at all times, while turning or while straight. And when I the height adjustment is correctly adjusted I can see the cars alongside me as well.
Now, whenever I change lanes or make a turn I check both the regular and convex mirror for cars and the assurance that I'm clearing the curb (or whatever).
