Hi-I did remove the plastic cover to the remote. I do think the battery is probably junk. I did get 1/2 the amount of the kit back from Amazon yesterday after I spoke to them that the kit was junk. I used the money to buy another remote. Rather than throwing money after that bad emote. I purchased the other remote yesterday (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GEV6P8U/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) without the wifi bridge as you suggested. My brother is making a 5 wire extension for the LED. I purchased an extension cord waterproof protector (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00883RM2U/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) yesterday think I can use that to put around the connection from the LED strip to the extension. It will help with keeping them together and will keep water out for the most part. Wish me luck!
