Steve, thanks so much for your kind post. I've learned a lot int he last couple weeks. I've had a couple calls with Alan Heath, a UK youtubber/ full-time traveler in a vehicle similar to what your describing.
I'm definitely looking for a used, semi-integrated, rear bed over garage motorhome 20-22' (6-6.70 meters)long. If it was a couple months, I'd do 6 meters, but I'm thinking of keeping the vehicle for a couple years and full-timing in it, so maybe up to 6.7 is more livable. I'm thinking that I'd rather buy a little longer than 5 meters, and plan to have NO exterior bike rack. Instead, I'd put the bike(s) in the garage, which could be a little larger given the length.
I'm looking to spend 20,000-40,000 euros or so, and there appears to be a wide variety brands in the 2007 to around 2012 construction year range. I'd look for a 2/1 berth, hoping to be able to make a bed out of the dinette, even if small. I don't want the retractable bed in front, because I like the light in the roof.
Of all these brands, I can't see that European buyers differentiate among then to a great extent. I'm researching this more now, am am looking for "problem brands or models" to exclude from my search list. I'll likely procure my vehicle through a sale/buy back vendor, by specifying what I'm generally looking for. I don't want to buy something that looks to be a good price, then discover it has mechanical errors from the factory.
QUESTION: Would you AVOID buying any of these brands?
I'm still learning, but it seems German made might be best.
