I don't think I'd assume the tire "went bad" due to age or anything else really other than something it hit. There's no reason I wouldn't trust the other 3 for at least the rest of the trip, other than the fact that I would not have a spare anymore so another flat would be bad news.
Easy to say sitting behind a keyboard if you haven't experienced this yourself. :R Last summer I returned from a trip, parked the camper on the driveway, and went in the house. An hour later when I went out to start retrieving stuff from the camper I found the front curb side tire totally flat, for no apparent reason. :h Later inspection showed this 5 yr old Chinese tire had split what appeared to be about an inch but after removing it from the rim we found a large oval bubble where the inner ply had delaminated and the split was actually several inches long. I had a choice - replace just the one tire and hope the others wouldn't also someday fail and have me stuck on the side of the highway OR replace all four. I chose the latter, replacing these China bombs with a set of Goodyear Endurance. Better safe than sorry. :B
1. It still could have suffered some kind of road damage at some point (impact), even on a previous trip. One sharp edged pothole could do a number on it.
2. Even if it just randomly failed, what are the odds a second one fails within 1 day of the first, after putting thousands of miles and years of use on all 4. It’s a statistics thing.
3. I wouldn’t make assumptions about my non-keyboard experiences.
4. I’m sharing my opinion since not being there I cannot have the facts.
I didn’t say I would keep the other 3, just that losing one doesn’t make the other 3 instantly untrustworthy for the rest of the trip.
