IMHO they do nothing more than add weight to your truck effectively reducing load carrying capacity.
Hit a deer with your "OEM" bumper...tell us how well your truck made out and then, ask me what happened to the 3 deer I hit with my Road Armor bumpers I had on my 2005 Ram. :B
So what kind of hood and windshield are you going with, because deer hardly stop at the bumper
Talkin deer and big pickups, not moose and little cars lol! 9 of 10x a whitey or blackie will end up somewhere between the grille and the ground with a big pickup.
Those odds go down as the size of the animal go up. A stout bumper is great deer repellent.
That said, I had a buddy in N WI who had his F250 totaled by a doe he didn't even hit!
Car in front of him launched the deer in the air and it landed square in the windshield of his truck taking out hood windshield cab roof A pillar, electronics, etc. new truck was just hauled to the junk yard over a 100lb deer! You're correct, a big bumper would have been a waste for him, but the avg deer playing frogger with a F250 is going to mess up things a bumper and grill guard would protect.
Gonna say that's pretty rare though........
