In my opinion, Airtream sells status symbols at status symbol prices.
Interesting observation. It is not just your opinion as Airstream intentionally advertises and markets the product in high end luxury type media. Airstreams are luxury items that happen to be travel trailers. Similar to Hinkleys being a luxury and status item that also happens to be a sail boat. Airstreams were originally sold on the freedom to travel with your home away from home with you. The founder, Wally Byam, was a premier sales person who sold the product on what it did for the buyer not so much on what it was. He took Airstreamers and their Airstreams around the world on caravans. The product was sold on travel, adventure, freedom, and even having a better knowledge of the world. It worked and apparently still does as they sell every one they make.
