Wow! Miss a thread (or two) miss a lot! Bummed I missed what I am sure were some if the best photos provided in a TR by Dave. I believe the focus of that last trip was photography and learning to take even better photos. To have the snowstorm added to the desert scenery during this focused trip.....I bet they were amazing.
Dave and his TRs will be missed greatly here but as Pink Floyd said "the show must go on.
As I read through these posts and had a number of thoughts to contribute, reading on my iPhone (while waiting for our truck to be tested for a possible head gasket leak) I thought damn, who put up the wide picture?!?! Way to go BKA! Way to make an effective example to prove a point! Lol..... Sideways to see the photo, vertical and scrolling to read the text!
Point #1, rather than creating an auto resizing function which other forums do when they HOST the photo, I would rather see this forum have a mobile version! Now that there seems to be a major split in viewing devices between mobile/small and stationary/large it makes the most sense to supply two formats to the reader. You will never please both groups with an in between solution. I hate the small size when on a desktop, and I hate the large sizes when on my mobile.
Point #2, all too often discussion threads like this become a fire (a la DRW versus SRW) whereas long involved and effort required posts like TR's get a lot of reads but little comment. I feel like we don't give enough support and encouragement at times to people's efforts at TRs or even thought in responses to involved questions. I am guilty of this as well at times, but it is something to think about. It is frustrating to some, possibly including TGW (The Great Whazoo), to see so big a ratio between "reads" and "replies". His always got a ton of feedback, but with many others, there isn't much. I dunno, I know now that I am living in our camper full-time, and am mostly reading via phone, I make it a point to try to focus my few posts on supporting the next generation of TR writers. If I read an effort, I try to reply and be encouraging to the writer. It's worth supporting those that make the effort. In fact, I might even add to someone like TGW's consternation by replying to newby TR writers for their effort when I fail to reply and give credit to veterans that I tend to think "don't need it". I know from my own writing that if it weren't for the feedback commensurate with the effort, it is really easy to just quit doing it. I hope I didn't contribute to TGW's frustration with this site. Morale of this whole point, is "if you read a TR an enjoy it, PLEASE give the writer feedback or thanks" or they may not go for another effort down the line. This forum needs contributors to thrive and to keep my attention for the next ten years of readership.
I hear Jim Morrison chanting in my head (for the second time lately) "This is the end......"
Safe travels Dave, see you down the road or trail.
(Now to see how this post looks after typing it on this rediculously little screen with an oversize picture within.....we need a mobile version!)
