You are right, at this point in time an EV is best in a two vehicle household. I've been daily driving EV's for 7 years, but We've always owned a gas car for longer trips too. With a wife and two teenagers, we've got a few cars anyway.
I drive around 35 miles/day. With a 9kW grid tied solar array on my house, I'm sitting pretty with no gas and low PG&E costs. But of course I paid $30k to install the solar in 2016 so... you're not wrong about the price point of it all. But that's where most technology begins. And at the rate PG&E is increasing their rates, the payoff is getting shorter every year!
EV's are getting better, and several hundred miles of range is attainable today, but the discussion of EV's in relation to tow vehicles is generally speaking not going to go well, especially around here lol.
