And therein lies the problem. Take a look at just the gas stations around the interstates and how busy they are, especially on holiday weeks. Today, you can be in and out in 5 minutes once you get your turn. Can you imagine the infrastructure requirements for the same amount of traffic and each taking an hour to re-fuel? Around town driving should not be a problem as most people will be able to refuel overnight at their homes, businesses, etc.
I realize a long trip is different and try to imagine a minute to plug in at night and a second minute to unplug in the morning. All those service stations will be just serving coffee.
I believe the time you save day to day will far exceed the periodic wait when charging on the road during an extended trip.
