Technically no. The max range of a model S (the 100,000 dollar Tesla) Max range is 340 miles. For 50,000 you can get one with 310 miles of range. But comparing a Tesla to a Yaris is a huge stretch. Tesla competes with Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Maybe high end Lincoln or Cadillac. A neighbour had put his name on a Lincoln. I suggested that we go for a quick burn in a model 3 Tesla. We did, he cancelled his Lincoln and is waiting for his model 3. He was stunned at the technology and performance. Nothing wrong with a Yaris but best to take a test drive to see the difference. Tesla’s are not economy cars and people don’t buy them for that reason but they are cheap to run and fuel. Lots to consider.
Didn't mean to imply a Tesla and Yaris is remotely in the same class.
But, the reason a Tesla is in a high class to begin with, is because due to the battery cost, it's only via to produce high end EVs with long range at this point.
In other words, we cannot make a 500 mile commuter car, because for the money people would simply choose a high end IC engine car.
When that changes though (say in 20 years), that's when we'll see the last nail on IC's coffin. And that's when the charging infrastructure will improve to suit the masses.
