I guess electrically powered vehicles are coming but seems to me they are presently only a rich person's toy with present technology. By that I mean, they're only good for around town and short trips ...

Twoedgedsword, we will never convince them. They have feelings and hear popular news stories, from others that don't understand. It is all about the numbers, just wait until they find out that electric cars mean that you have to build new power lines to get the juice to the cars, and I have to build new pipelines to get the gas to your powerplant. Deliverability is the word that never sinks in, gas is worthless at the wellhead, electric is useless at the powerplant. Neither has value until it is used by the customer. And we have to build for the max need 20 years from now, not the average need today. I know electric comes from the switch and gas comes from the stove, it has nothing to do with all that stuff that we sons and daughters of Martha (read Kipling) deal with.
