Compared to what? Your petrol fuel has tons of emissions to extract, transport, refine, transport again. Not to mention how much is just spilled into the environment including many sensitive wildlife areas. Then you go and burn the stuff at half the efficiency of a power plant.
This is your oil wells just burning. Could probably run ALL electric vehicles on the road today with this wasted energy just to extract your unrefined oil.

The EV itself has no emissions. And you are right that I do not want to drive near a coal plant or behind your smoky vehicle. EV owners BTW have a strong propensity to have solar panels... do you?
