Our challenges will be more about mindset than technology.
The fact is, you cannot store as much energy in a battery as you can in a fuel tank, nor can you refill it as quickly. I think the future will have a place for both technologies in different applications. I think an EV would be cool and would suit the needs of many but at the present state of the technology, I would still need an IC vehicle as well.
