Curious. What toxic chemicals are in an electric car. I know the 12 volt lead acid battery is considered toxic waste (yes many electric cars have them for automotive functions), but what else is in an EV that makes it toxic waste? Don't actually know.
Lithium for one. I also believe the chemical used to fight a lithium battery fire is considered hazardous.
I don’t know as I’ve never looked it up. I know lithium batteries are landfill disposable whereas a lead acid batteries are not. Neither is the gas or oil in an ice car. I would think (don’t actually know though) that there are a lot more toxins in a gas vehicle. I know statistically gas car fires are much more common than electrics. Electrics are tougher to put out.
Interesting topic though. When I have some time I’ll do some googling.
I thing the jury is still out on the relative fire risk between electric or gas/diesel. The only statistic I have seen on electric fires is from Tesla and I would not trust those figures. There must be some inherent risk as you cannot have a lithium battery in your checked luggage.
I would think you are right. But having said that they definetly won’t let you board with a can of gas. :).
