All terrain tires

I will be buying a new set of tires for my van, Costco has a good deal on a set of all terrain tires. My question is do they run any louder or rougher than normal LT tires ?
  • All depends on the tire brand & the vehicle. I run Hankook ATm LT LR-E tires on both our vehicles and they are a bit louder on the truck, but not noticeable on the Jeep. They will be squirrely the first 800-1000 miles, but then will settle down and you will not notice any difference in ride from your old tires.

been there done that with a nice set of Yokohama's AT design. It was too much with the 5er attached i had to get rid of them and got Micheans. BUT i wish I still had them got rid of them with around 600 miles on them.. NOW you tell me and I took a beating selling them.

  • Yep, depends on the tire. I put BFG ATs on my last truck, and they were noticeably (but not unreasonably) louder. Mpgs dropped slightly, too.
  • Some will be a lot louder, it depends on how aggressive the tread is. I also noticed a distinct decrease in steering ability with one brand (General Grabber AT2) on my F-350. It felt like the tires were not gripping the roadway like the original tires. Lost about 1 mpg mileage too.

When I switched to Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A everything went back to optimal.
  • My F350 came with all terrains and no they are not loud or rough riding. Only thing are the extreme tires that many lifted vehicles run for 'looks'. You know the ones that are worn out except for the large nubs on the sidewalls.
