2 Wheel drive "off road package"? :?
The idea of a off road 2 WD with locking axle was developed in desert racing, such as the Baja 1000.
High ground clearance, oversize tires, locking rear axle were the focus points of these trucks.
They first used this concept (as far as I know) on pre runner trucks that would make fast full course runs down the rough race route on the Baja years ago.
BTW...my son has driven his truck through 5 years of 5 1/2 month winter per each year, without getting stuck....300 lbs of sand bags...high ground clearance, oversize tires and locking axle...do the job.
We live in a Canadian city that has the dubious distinction of being the coldest city in the world with a population over 600,000...with all the attendant winter, ice, etc. that comes with that.
Winter driving in extreme traction limited conditions, for many here...is a well developed necessity.
