You never know until you see it. Inspect it very carefully, especially where the it had leaked. A unit that age may have many very useful years left or it may be dangerous to tow it to the dump. You never know until you inspect it. If the price is right and it is in good condition, it may be a viable purchase. So to answer your question, no, you are not crazy to consider a 1999 model.
