Yes, there is a lot of storage behind that seat. This release latch is very well made and the installation is only a one beer job :B
You will notice the on the back of the seat, the covering material is slightly different than the other side and it has some sharp framing that I covered with Edge Trim.
By watching the video you will be able to release the seat back and check it all out before buying the release latch.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is what I have done. Here is a photo of the latch on the back of my driver's side rear seat back and the emergency equipment I keep stored behind there:
I did the exact same thing, I put stuff behind there for easy access from the drivers side.. My particular configuration is similar to Bobbo's, there is quite a bit of room. Funny, the passenger side has a latch from the factory and I never open it, but the drivers side seems to be used often :)
