I have the regular cab with 8' bed. I did order it new in 08. 2500 ram diesel and I pull a 40' 5er with it. I don't think the forum can answer what you need, that's up to you. My 2 reasons are: The extended, crew, quad cab will not fit into my garage. I have compressor and other shelves etc in front of truck and to get an extended cab in I would have to make major changes.
Back in the day when I worked, I had various extended, crew & squad cab company trucks. The back seat became a collection area for "stuff". Papers, coolers, tools, any and everything ended up in the back seat. Just a natural & easy place for stuff to collect, just like your "work bench" in your garage at your "sticks & bricks"....
Not beating up the extended cab folks out there, I have no dog and the regular cab is fine for DW & self. I know from experience if I had the extended cab and we were heading out on a trip with the 5er, the first thing I would need to do is clean out the extended cab....
