An interesting toilet

After seeing BigBlue12's post on the Amerigo toilet question, it made me think of something I saw this week.

I'm about to purchase another sailboat, and this one has a unique toilet that I'd never seen before. Rather than a Porta Pottie, it's an aerobic unit that makes dumping a real breeze instead of a disgusting chore.

My old sailboat had tanks that you pumped out, this one is different, since it's a smaller boat.

The toilet is also perfectly fine for an RV.

Now, for most of us with built in toilets, holding tanks, and the ability to flush the hose with gray water after dumping the black, this is obviously not needed.
But for those TC owners with porta pottie or cassette type toilets, or someone like BigBlue having to do a major rebuild, I think this is pretty impressive.

I can tell you this, it is MUCH easier to deal with than a porta pottie type, and can hold a couple of WEEKS worth before having to empty.

I know it's a crappy topic:), but this is actually pretty cool and will make my weekend sailing trips MUCH easier.

    yea, I thought so too, but I've talked with several sailors, and they absolutely swear by them. For those used to having to lug a whole porta pottie, this is much easier.

    $996 for something to******in? Wowza! I can do a lot of plumbing, a new 2-tank system, and a new toilet for probably less than that. I can probably get a macerator pump in for that budget too. However all of that may not be the best for the situation. That bein said don't think I can justify a portable that cost ten times what other ones do.

    No way. You still have to handle the poo. Looks like something a sail boater dreamed up. Here on the Chesapeake every marina has a pump out station and it is legal to dump in the ocean. That being said If I had to use one that didn't flush it would be an incinolet and yes it needs 110 volts and it is super pricey. Only if I absolutely had to choose of the 2 mentioned might as well go for the gusto. http://www.incinolet.com/

    We have a Natures Head on the boat.

    There are a couple other models available. Airhead is about the most expensive and anyone larger than a 10 yr old won't fit, the seat is tiny.

    Makes a lot of sense on a boat. You can't dump on the Chesapeake, only on the open ocean at least 3 miles out and pump outs always seem to be broken. Plus out composting toilet can go almost a month without emptying the solids. The liquids can be dumped in any shoreside toilet and needs to be done once or twice a week. (as opposed to once or twice a week having to move the boat over to a pump out)

    If you frequently boondock, it can make sense for a truck camper. If you are in parks, a casset is probably almost as easy to deal with.

    Way to be specific. People have been known to make a mess dumping in the toilets with these types of contraptions so do everyone a favor and use the pumpout or the dump station any way.

    Never had an issue pouring the liquid container and never heard of anyone else having an issue. We've had the unit for 6yrs so I assume we would have heard of the issue by now.

    Another major benefit is the lack of odor. No so much an issue with RV's but it's rare to find a holding tank system on a boat that doesn't smell like the contents. With the composter, there is usually no odor and occassionally a slight musty smell like freshly turned garden soil.

    I suggest doing a little research before poo-pooing it.

    When people have poured human waste in our restrooms at our Marina they have, in the past, made a mess. I am glad it works for your purposes, but you are still carrying around a bucket of poo and pee.
