An interesting toilet

After seeing BigBlue12's post on the Amerigo toilet question, it made me think of something I saw this week.

I'm about to purchase another sailboat, and this one has a unique toilet that I'd never seen before. Rather than a Porta Pottie, it's an aerobic unit that makes dumping a real breeze instead of a disgusting chore.

My old sailboat had tanks that you pumped out, this one is different, since it's a smaller boat.

The toilet is also perfectly fine for an RV.

Now, for most of us with built in toilets, holding tanks, and the ability to flush the hose with gray water after dumping the black, this is obviously not needed.
But for those TC owners with porta pottie or cassette type toilets, or someone like BigBlue having to do a major rebuild, I think this is pretty impressive.

I can tell you this, it is MUCH easier to deal with than a porta pottie type, and can hold a couple of WEEKS worth before having to empty.

I know it's a crappy topic:), but this is actually pretty cool and will make my weekend sailing trips MUCH easier.

  • My understanding is that the fully composted solid waste can be spread on the ground, as it is now soil/fertilizer. If it is not fully composted yet, you can put it in a plastic bag and put it in any dumpster. I don't think you ever would try putting the solid down a toilet...imagine trying to flush soil..?

The liquid on the other hand looks to be very clean. The typical holding tanks I've seen are only like 2 gallons. Dumping 2 gallons in an easy-to-handle container of only liquid into a toilet should be easy and hard to make a mess of.

Cassette toilets on the other hand, I can completely understand your reservation to not wanting people dumping those in your toilets. However, with enough practice and care, it is also quite clean.

When people have poured human waste in our restrooms at our Marina they have, in the past, made a mess. I am glad it works for your purposes, but you are still carrying around a bucket of poo and pee.

You do realize everyone who uses the restrooms is pouring human waste into the toilets. Just a question of how they bring it in. Some folks with the built in carrying system fail to hit the target.

I have used a casset toilet a few times and I guarantee, it's eaier and less messy to dump the liquids tank from the composting toilet. Never even though to try and dump the solids that way and there is no need.

Playing with poo and pee is just the curse of RV'ing or boating. Show me a system that doesn't include some level of interaction.

If you will have regular access to a dump station or full hookups, I would suggest using a standard black/gray tanks as it's probably the least interaction. If you have to choose between casset and composting, I would lean toward composting.
