I have a 12 volt awning that goes straight out from the TT. It is worthless as the sun sets lower in the sky. :( I am looking to replace it with a manual awning such as the Carefree Pioneer which can be lowered to block the setting sun.
Other than door opening clearance, what else should I look for?
A better awning than that Carefree? :p
I replaced the Carefree of Colorado power awning on our 2008 Spree with a Dometic 8500 manual awning for exactly the same reasons. Be aware though that the mounting system is different for each type of awning so when the power awning is removed you'd be left with quite a few holes in the trailer sidewall that would have to be filled in, both to prevent water from getting in and for esthetics.
Since I have the 12 volt available do they make an electric awning that drops down to block the sun?
Our current Freedom Express has a Dometic 9100 power awning that can be tilted down at each end ... never a big fan of power awnings but this one has probably changed my mind as it works just fine. :B
