I've had several 1/2 tons and always upgraded to LT tires. But that's just me. I don't like the mushy ride of P's. I found LT D rated to give a more solid feel along with better handling. The sidewall won't roll under as bad with LT's therefore making the front feel crisper when turning. You also get better tread options as well. They may or may not make towing better, just depends on how one perceives better.
