another new camper, another warratee fantastic fan

Had dealer add the 7350 fantastic fan (with all the bell and whistles) in my Wolf Creek in spring of 2015. later that year had to warranty the fan motor as it had crickets in it (squeaks when running slow on exhale mode).

Bought an Arctic Fox in October of 2016. It comes with the 1250 fan (3 speed) Had dealer exchanges the 7350 over to the AF and put the 1250 into wolf creek we were trading in (I think this is done by switching the board and controls, not the fan)

last fall we used the AF for 1 week than had to cover it for the winter.
This spring there is crickets in fan. so I had to warranty another fan motor.

I think I see a bad trend starting.

Looking at the motors, they appear to be held together with a pair of one of those bolts that the head shears off when you tighten it?
has anybody ever taken one of these motors apart? I am sure some good old USA bearings (that have grease in them) might be the answer.

  • They went from a real motor to a pancake motor in the last few years. Mine have worked, but I wonder about the acquisition too.

    I called them and they e-mailed me a ups pre-paid mailing ticket...twice.

I bet they have a pile of defective motors in Elkhart.

Going to install a second unit this spring but it won't be a Fantastic Fan. They are just too much money. Cheaper (much cheaper alternatives out there in RV land.

Fantastic Fan is a division of Lippert Components, as is Furrion, HappyJac and a few other component manufacturers. Never been impressed with Lippert's bedside manner so maybe the acquisition by Lippert will further degrade customer / manufacturer relations. Who knows.

  • I'm on my 3rd motor / fan replacement. Firt one got crickets, second one quit entirely until I took it out and wacked it with a block of wood, then it started working again but I sent it back and got a new one. They are real easy to deal with and obviously make a tom on the units because they replace them and pay the shipping both ways, every time...

I don't believe it's the bearings, I believe it's the brush assemblies, that is a brush type motor. The motor case is welded shut so no getting inside though I may grind off the welds next time and dissect it anyway.

    It's a Chinese motor btw.
  • We had the same problem with new fantastic vents in our 5th wheel. Fan- tastic just kept replacing them, 3 times, till we got one that didn't crickets after 2-3 months.
  • Both had cover installed at same time as replacement motor. But motor is sealed, and my system had rain sensor. Even fog closes vent.
  • Strange ... maybe has something to do with how they install them, or your use case. Curious, do you use vent covers?
