Fatal flaw? The average consumer does not check their oil much less have the knowledge to properly check the trans fluid level. These are nothing new and have been around for years. Is the design of the differential or transfer case fatally flawed?
Ok, "fatal" may have been too strong of a word. But for old school guys who are used to checking/adding fluid as needed. This is what I consider a flaw in the design. Although there is a fill plug on the side of the trans.
On the other hand like you said the majority of owners out there don't. So as a manufacturer they have to accommodate those owners and probably got a cost reduction and gained space for other components while doing so.
