Update:

I brought the bracket to my welding buddy, and he's going to make the following changes to my design:
1) the back plate is now going to be made of 1/4" steel. Why? Because he has a piece that will do for both brackets! hehe!
2_ the brace (diagonal support) will be made of angle iron, in order to give it even more strength. Why this extra strength? Because he had a piece kicking around! heheh! :)
