I've never heard it's not needed for a long truck. Anti-sway is generally recommended for all TTs. Somewhere around 30' (I think) it is recommended that you go to two if you're using the basic friction sway bars. There are a lot of different methods but the difference between no sway control and even the most basic sway control is pretty large.
So, short answer to your question is yes get it and yes friction is just fine. You may need 2 depending on your setup.
