Any 17 Dmax owners?

Hearing GM was able to get rid of the dead pedal on the new L5P motor. One of the worst "features" on newer diesels. Its horrible on my LML. Hear the new Powerstroke and Cummins still suffer from it however.

Any new owners out there that can confirm?

My 2016 RAM 2500 Cummins might have a bit of lag, but I don't drive it like the old Passat. It's a big heavy truck, and I'm usually towing with it! When I have put the pedal to the floor, there may have been some initial hesitation, but it quickly makes up for it. So never been an issue here.

Ditto. I was worried about it from what I'd been reading online before I bought the truck, but I had no issues on the test drive or in the 25,000 miles since.
  • Guess "Dead pedal" is sort of like "turbo lag". But I dunno if it's the same or not.

Our 2005 Passat TDI had some Turbo Lag when you floored the pedal, but you got used to it and adjusted your driving accordingly.

  • I've never notice this on any of the new Diesels I've driven and I've been in all three. (GM,Ram and I own a ford!)
Are we expecting these bit diesels to perform like a high revving NA motor though? Is that really what people are after?
  • "Dead Pedal" is when you mash the pedal and nothing really happens for what seems like an iternity. Poor throttle response in most all driving conditions.

The theory is manufacturers have done this on purpose with newer diesels to control soot levels when boost levels are low.

I added a BD throttle sensitivity booster to my LML which helped quite a bit with the mushy pedal feel but not completely.

Google "LML Dead Pedal" and you will find plenty of discussions on it.
  • I've been trying to read up on Diesel engines. By "dead pedal" do you mean hesitation? If not, what is it?
  • They just started coming out. Only one of two guys on a GM forum have them so far. A few more on the Duramax forum.
