Any new Ecoboost engines coming?

Ford has had such good reviews on the 2.7 and the 3.5 ecoboost engines I went searching the web for indications they may be expanding that technology to larger engines. I found info on new little engines 1 L to 1.6 L. But nothing larger.
It just seems logical that they would be working up a new engine in the 4L to 4.5L range which could even go in 250 series trucks and would still have some fuel saving benefits.
Anybody seen any news about anything coming?

Ford is also rumored to be working on an 8-10 speed RWD transmission to replace the 6R140 in the same trucks, but I have heard even less about that.

Ha.....probably working with GM on that again lol. Oh the humanity, oh the forum fodder.
  • Probably won't happen but I could get in line for a HD truck version without direct injection but all the other EB goodness.
  • About the only thing that is close to being new is the 2.3L EcoBoost that is currently only in the Mustang will likely be the base engine in the 2019MY Ranger. Likely there will be a diesel, but not at Job #1.

A 2.7L/3.0L EcoBoost in the Ranger would be AWESOME !

When I Google Ford 7X engine I find some references to a 7L engine from last spring but nothing any more recent. That makes me wonder what is going on there.

Essex engine will get the job and is being converted .Doubt it will be boosted thou.

Ford product schedules are really messed up. (Retiree, IMHO, Mark Fields let things slide because they were making money. Jim Hacket, with Billy Ford's blessing, wants to "catch up" on hybrids, BEVs and autonomous. Everything else seems to have gone back burner.)

The new engine (>7.0L and naturally aspirated) is built off of the current 6.2L (with many updates) and is aimed squarely at the Super Duty (F250-F450) and Medium Duty (F650-F750 plus bus and motor home chassis) markets. Likely it will make the 2019MY in all of the above.

  • Ford will be releasing a new 7.3 gas engine next year to be built at the Windsor plant.

    Stay tuned
