Any opinions on Dutchmen TT's

I'm considering buying a 2009 Dutchmen 26B-DSL. Is anyone familiar with this particular TT or Dutchmen TT's in general? Of course I'll do a thorough inspection before purchase, just wondering if there's anything in particular I should watch out for...any known problems, design issues or areas of concern? Any comments or considerations one way or the other on Dutchmen?
  • We had a 94 Classic 31' for 18 yrs. All of the appliances were original and still worked great. The fridge thermocouple was a oddball that had to be ordered, I just kept an extra on hand. This was the biggest concern, had to replace it maybe 5 times. Having to order it made it more memorable. I think I had 2 extras with it when we sold it.

We did basic maintenance and up keep items. We would make a list of items we wanted to fix or modify every time we went out. I would try to go through the list before the next outing. It gave us a lot of dependable service. Worst thing I remember was hitting my head on the slide out header.
  • We have been very satisfied with the TT in my signature ever since we bought it new.
  • Had a 2010 Freedom Spirit TT. Made by Dutchman. Had serious problems with lippert axles. Repair was done as part of warranty you may want to check on the wear of your tires . Search lippert axles you will find many issues with this type of TT.
Sold it, now own a Jayco. Better pulling experience big difference.
  • We have a 2007 Dutchmen bought used 3 years ago. We have had no problems whatsoever. X2 what the previous poster said.
  • We had an 2004 Dutchmen Sport and had no issues with it. It was our 1st TT after our pop-up. We loved it at first, but it had a corner bed and that was the only reason we traded for a new one a few years later. The only thing wrong with the camper was the corner bed and it had no oven. We really wanted an oven too.

Dutchmen is made by Thor Industries, and I am now on my 3rd TT by Thor (Dutchmen, Springdale, Outback). All have been good and we've had no issues with any of them.

The camper you are considering is 4 years old. If the previous owner took care of it, it should be in good shape. If you are purchasing from a dealer, they should have gone through it, inspected, and fixed anything. If you're purchasing privately, you need to check everything. Start with the roof and work your way to the tires on the ground. Ask if the wheel bearings have been repacked lately. Look for water stains on the ceiling, and if the ceiling has been freshly painted ... run! It probably had a leak and someone is trying to cover it up.

If the camper has been well maintained, you should comfortably get another 4 or 5 years out of it. Our Dutchmen 04 had a 10 year "guarantee" on the rubber roof. Not sure how long they should last now-a-days. They've improved since then also.

    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.
