BIG difference between an SUV with a meagre 5000 lb tow rating and a 1/2 ton truck, especially one equipped with a heavy duty tow package that can tow considerably more. You need to further define the tow vehicle,
then decide on a suitable trailer. As an example, for several years we owned a triple bunk bed 24' KZ Spree 240BH-LX which had 2 beds at the rear which ran the full width of the trailer and were a generous 32" wide ... but you'd not tow a trailer like this with any SUV with a 5000 lb tow rating.
Limit yourself to such an SUV and you'll be limiting yourself to some pretty small trailers as well. :R
