You know , personally I'm getting a little tire of all the hype the the truck manufactures are putting out in their ads about their trucks have more available payloads or the most hp or torque or can tow 100 more pounds than any other truck. In reality all of them have more than 99% of the people that buy them would ever need and then some. If they want to claim to have the best tool IMO they need to start designing and offering things like on board generators or usable air systems to actually run tools and air up tires. Maybe small refrigerated coolers to keep meat for sandwiches or even put groceries in that need to be refrigerated.
Don't get me wrong, the advances in technology the past few years have been great but the "our truck has more towing power" has got to end sometime. We are already at a point that our little RV tow vehicles have more power than some of the semi's running down the road grossing 80,000#. When they start putting the 9 and ten speed transmission in the HD trucks we'll have as many or more gears. It's just not needed. It's turned into a chest bumping match.
We have cars that are 15' long that will park themselves with a push of a button. What about my 22' long truck that when you pull up beside a car you can't even see it because the truck is so tall. I want one of those buttons. I test drove a car a couple years ago that would steer the car automatically if you started veering to close to the line. What about my truck? Why can I have that yet? What about a tailgate that can be used to lift cargo into the bed?
Ram came out with the "RAM BOX" and is a popular option. What about you Ford and GM guys, would you buy a truck that has tool boxes made into the bed if your manufacture offered it? The possibilities are really endless as far as options that our manufactures could design and offer but yet right now it seems that all they are focusing on is who can build the strongest most powerful truck. I'm at the point, "who cares?" They will all haul or tow anything I would ever need to and then some. I WANT OPTIONS I CAN USE! I want a generator built in to run my saws and drills while out on the back 40 building fences. Built in air system to run my air tools and make changing a flat easier and quicker. I want a cooler to keep my drinks and sandwiches cold while on my fishing trip without having to get ice. If you crawl around under a truck and look there is a lot of space for things like this that could be mounted even with all the EPA **** under there.
You know, the funny thing is that all the real trucks they sell to actually work with (Cab and Chassis trucks) have detuned engines and still do very well at keeping the pace with loads most of the general public only dream about. Okay, now we have the power, start showing me some tools that come with my $75,000.
Sorry, I'm done now. LOL
