Well I would also go to Ford INC. if you never got a light then the amount of water should not be an issue, they should be able to check the computer and tell if the light came on.
Check with your insurance agent, may be covered under comprehensive.
The contamination doesn't have to be water. From what I hear, a little gasoline will take out a CP4 pump too. And gasoline isn't about to trip a WIF light.
Gasoline can get in there through a mistake filling, inadvertant mixing in the supplier's tanks, vandalism, etc. Still worth filing a claim under the comprehensive coverage as mentioned.
